History of Bajaj Chetak and Legend Scooters in the USA
In 2000, a man with a vision of a commuting american public organized a venture to import one of the most reliable, robust, and economical transportation vehicles in the word: the Bajaj Chetak motor scooter. This venture became Bajajusa and enjoyed considerable success until the parent company, Bajaj Auto of India, dropped the Chetak from production in 2006. Turns out that, just as Americans were embracing the Chetak as the embodiment of economical transportation, in India riders were shifting to motorcycles as the latest expression of their own personal success. When Bajajusa was no longer able to import its flagship product it had to close its doors, leaving behind thousands of orphan bajajusa riders.
